"Being There" is a photographic project and book by Senegalese self-portraitist Omar Victor Diop and British photographer Lee Shulman, also known as The Anonymous Project. It involves Diop being digitally inserted into vintage photographs from the 1950s and 1960s of white, middle-class American families, often in places where Black people were excluded during that era. The project explores themes of privilege, representation, and the experiences of Black individuals in a segregated society.
